You’ve found it!

This is the method used to fund over $18 billion (!!!) in philanthropic work last year – corporate giving programs.

While there are at least 8 different ways your employer may help your favorite cause, employer matching gifts are, by far, the most popular … and most impactful.

You can double your impact by just taking advantage of this technique.

And there’s more good news – over 65% of Fortune 500 companies have some sort of donation matching program. The vast majority of businesses match at a 1:1 ratio, too. That means your employer will give $1 for every dollar you give.

Boom. Donation doubled. World changed that much more.

So how does it work?

How Employer Matching Gifts Work

Each employer matching gifts program works differently, but most share a common process:

  1. 1. Check to see if your employer has a matching program and how it works
  2. (If necessary) Add your favorite charity to their list using their EIN (Project Partner’s EIN is 23-7046813)
  3. Make a donation
  4. Complete form
  5. Employer disperses funds

The most important thing to understand is how your particular company’s matching program works.

If your employer doesn’t have a matching program, suggest it. You could even volunteer to help get it started. Start by sharing this interesting article: How Corporate Giving Can Increase Employee Engagement

DST Systems, Inc. 1:1 $10,000
Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) 1:1 $500
AT&T 1:1 $250

Matching Ratios

While most companies with a donation matching program (90% perhaps) will match dollar for dollar, many will match at different rates.

Ask your HR representative what your company’s matching policy is before you make a gift. You may even find your gift can be tripled or quadrupled!

Matching Limits

As with matching ratios, your employer likely has a matching gift limit.

Make sure your giving potential is maximized by checking to see your company’s matching limit before making your donation.

It’s Not Tool Late To Get A Match

Most companies require you to make a donation and complete paperwork before they will match a gift. That means you can likely get a matching gift for a gift you’ve already made!

Review contributions you’ve made in the past year, and make a list of the charities.

If your employer matches gifts, apply for a matching donation for gifts you’ve already made and double your impact!
