Help them connect to Jesus
Pastor Lener was a professional soccer player. But his heart has long been sold out for Christ. He has worked for decades as an indigenous church planter with the vision of bringing hope to the lost in Peru. Currently, Pastor Lener is working with young church planters in the southern part of the country. He recently shared with us, “The pastors that I work with often travel together. I never tire of admiring the Lord every day when I see his mercy in other people. They tell me that it was their love for the work of the Lord that they sold their clothes and other things to be able to travel to be with their brothers who were scared and without work. Many families have suffered the loss of jobs and loved ones from the pandemic. There is tremendous need here, both spiritual and physical.”
Despite years of promises and billions in social programs, the bulk of Peru’s population (54 percent) lives in poverty, according to the CIA World Factbook. Of the poor, the UNDP estimates that 19 percent live in “absolute poverty,” meaning they survive on less than US$1 a day.
