About Project Partner
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” is an almost cliche question we ask kids. It speaks of unending possibilities and inspires dreams of being an astronaut, professional baseball player or famous chef. Even if we never grow up to be any these things personally, we know they are real possibilities. We see people achieving them every day.
Yet we don’t think about the millions of people that don’t have this kind of hope.
In China alone, there over 400 million people facing extreme poverty – that’s more men, women, and children than the entire population of the United States! They survive on less than $2 a day. No one asks their kids what they want to be when they grow up. They’re focused on survival, not dreams. Yet, there is hope.
The Chinese government is putting a large effort into reducing the number of people living in poverty. They are the only developing country to achieve the United Nations Millennium Development Goal award for a reduction in poverty, and they’re consistently funding aid and relief efforts. Despite all the progress, China still faces challenges to reduce residual poverty.
The families in rural China need our help. They need clean water, quality education and access to health care. We take these basic needs for granted, but they are the only things standing between struggling to survive and the hope of a brighter future.
While this situation isn’t unique to China (poverty exists around the world), Project Partner is uniquely suited to make an impact in China. Even the largest charities providing clean water in other developing countries can’t do work in China. Relationships and trust are paramount in China, and Project Partner has built these with our partners since 1982.
Make the decision to help today. Join us in providing simple solutions proven to work, like water storage systems, health screenings, and educational materials. For about $30 a family, we can start to ask, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
